Making a difference in the community

Donation protected

I started doing a suicide prevention program when I was teaching in Little Falls, Minnesota 15 years ago. I was inspired to start writing letters to each of my 6th grade students at the end of the year by a presenter I saw at a middle school teachers conference. My goal was to write a one page letter to each of my students telling them all of the positives that I see in them. I tell them to keep the letters in a safe place, and to take them out and read them whenever they are feeling down, or just need a pick me up. After doing this for a couple years I had a former student commit suicide from my first year teaching. I wondered if I had started this earlier and given her a letter could I have saved her life? Fast forward 10 years. I found this wonderful ribbon ceremony called "Who I am Makes a Difference". You order ribbons from a non-profit and honor people by telling them the positives they have and give them a ribbon. I ordered enough ribbons for my suicide prevention program two years ago and came into contact with the founder of the ribbons and that's when I started to get really excited about changing lives for the better. I had the honor of participating in a reading of her script for her future broadway play, and recently took a class called "Standing Strong Together" with one of my students. This class taught us how we can become leaders in our community and expand my mission of making a difference from just my students in my class to the entire school, and the community. I got my co-teacher, Mr. Charlie Borak on board with the mission, and he wants to take the "Standing Strong Together" class along with a student this fall. I also want to order 5,000 "Who I am Makes a Difference" ribbons to bring to the community of Moose Lake, Minnesota and change the lives of people in our community and surrounding areas. The money raised here will go directly to ordering the 5,000 ribbons and for the tuition for the "Standing Strong Together" class for Mr. Charlie Borak and one of our 6th grade students this fall. Please help me with this mission to change lives, and potentially save lives, Who you are makes a difference! Thanks for considering helping the cause! BING!
