Single Mother Battling Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Rachel and I am raising money for my sister Esther Nechy and her family.
My sister just turned 40 years old less than a month ago, in May. She is a single mother of three children, ages 19, 15 and 11. My sister is the most courageous and ambitious person that I know. When her marriage ended at the age of 34 she went on to build a life of her own. She then completed a BA at Brooklyn College with a 4.0 GPA and recently graduated with her MFA from NYU. She was planning to go back to college this fall to pursue a medical degree because she is unstoppable.
Just as the future was looking bright a terrible tragedy struck.
One year and three months ago, she suddenly developed lumps on her neck that just got bigger and bigger over a few weeks. Within weeks,my sister’s life was in grave danger (although we didn’t realize it immediately) and she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 4.
She went through 6 months of chemo and never asked for help, continuing to work throughout. She was put in early remission after the treatment. However, a few months later her follow up scan showed that the cancer had returned (or never truly gone away) in a rare form called “Primary Refractory Lymphoma”. This time, chemo was no longer an option and she prepared to do a potentially life-saving, risky treatment called “Car-T-Cell Therapy”, which caused her to be hospitalized for many weeks. She experienced the most severe side effects possible including neurotoxicity. Which resulted in her landing in the ICU at death's door, but against all odds she made it out with a clean scan.
Now only 4 months later, finally feeling hopeful while we are all still reeling from the prior trauma, tragedy struck again last week as her scan showed that the cancer had aggressively returned in another part of her body, which again, is incredibly rare.
My sister has worked and attended school through all of these treatments over the last year in a seemingly impossible way. However, my sister can no longer work as she is preparing for last line treatment (which means the last treatment that is available for cure).
She and her children have been through hell the last year and are once again going through hell, while not knowing what the outcome will look like. We are all devastated and terrified.
My sister is a fighter and is prepared to do anything she can to fight this for her and her children. She will be out of work from around 6 months to a year at the very minimum.
This money will go towards rent, food, transportation, and basic expenses for their home, herself and her children.
I will continue to provide updates in general and if anything changes, whenever possible.
Please donate if you can, no amount is too small. And if not, please consider sharing this link with anyone who might.
Thank you so much,
Love,
Rachel/Rochy
