Funeral & Memorial Fund for Simon Albu

My Father Simon Albu passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday 23rd October from stomach cancer. He was not aware of how unwell he was and neither were we.

It has been such a great source of comfort since his passing to have received such an outpouring of love and support from his friends and colleagues.

My inbox has been full to bursting with kind words and fond memories. I have also had gentle requests from many in my Dad's world for a central place for friends and family to offer condolences, come together to respect, send floral tributes and donations.

I memorialized his Facebook page so now all loved ones can share memories and photos however I was at a loss as to how to accept kind offers of donations in his name.
I have been searching for a respectful and right way to bridge the gap between my grieving family and those who have reached out wanting to support us.

Due to Covid-19 I cannot give my Father the funeral he deserves. It will be as beautiful as I can make it however there are so many restrictions especially with the number of loved ones who can attend.
I know a great number of his friends and work colleagues would want to be there and I would want you all there with all my heart.

With this in mind we will hold a small family funeral on Friday 20th November and my plan is to hold a beautiful memorial next year when hopefully the Virus will be a distant memory and invite you all to that to celebrate my Father's life.
We are hoping to plant a tree for him with a plaque and possibly a memorial bench in his favourite place.

Unfortunately Covid-19 has effected my  family, like so many others, financially very badly. My partner Tom and I work in events, doing children's birthday parties and events such as sports days and theatre working with children with special needs.
Sadly there is very little celebration right now and simply no work for us.

I also have a medical condition which prevents me from working full-time and means my immune system doesn't work effectively so I'm high risk right now (as is my baby daughter who had meningitis not long after she was born.)
I am an only child and have two littles ones under four so you can imagine it's all pretty challenging to say the least.
I am currently receiving Universal Credit and just about keeping the wolf from our door as it were however we are struggling to find the funds to cover the cost of even a very modest funeral.

In researching funeral costs it seems the average cost for a UK funeral is just under £4000. We don't expect to raise this but we will do our best to honour my Father next week with whatever funds we can raise and also use the money for the beautiful memorial we will stage next year with all of his friends in attendance.

I have reached out to The Royal Theatrical Fund, various Masonic charities, The Film and Television Charity and The Arts Council as my Father was in the showbusiness industry for over 40 years (as was my Mother her whole life and myself for nearly 30 years) so I'm hoping I might be eligible for some help there.

If you would like to send floral tributes please do, that would be lovely and deeply appreciated (please contact me if you'd like an address) however a donation to this fund for the funeral and memorial as a whole would be so gratefully received at a difficult time.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Take care.
