**update as of June 2019-- I have had to end my case with the court of appeals. This was after lengthy discussions with my attorney, who thought it was possible to win the appeal, but that the costs and length of time would hurt me. He advised that we use our efforts and resources on the current case, because I have an on-going custody, support, divorce, and DV case. It came between choosing the on-going battle to protect my children and myself vs getting the deserved justice from the denied DVRO renewal. I prayed on this and went with the advise of my attorney to drop the appeal. We already had a custody mediation and hearing this year, and still have a trial set for August 2019.

My name is Sarah Strong and I am a survivor of domestic violence. In July of 2017, I left my abuser. I was 5 months pregnant with our son, and he pushed me to the floor. He had been physically violent with me before, but I finally got out and obtained a DV Restraining Order. The order was granted for one year, but the judge denied its renewal in 2018.


I have taken my case to the California State Court of Appeals. I have started the appeal on my own, but I am now in need of professional legal help. I have found an excellent attorney named Andrew Westover who specializes in family law appeals. He is eager to help me with my appeal and my family law case, but as a single mom of 2 and after the financial toll of leaving abuse, I need help acquiring his services. After talking with Mr. Westover, we believe my case could help set precedence and change laws for how DV victims are treated in court. And of course, obtaining the DVRO again would provide protection for me and my kids.
