Alokdhara Living Foundation (ALF) is a 24/7 residential center for autistic young adults. It has been formed & run by the parents of autistic young adults through self-financing with the objective that their autistic children can lead a stable lifestyle even in their parent's absence.
Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder have social-communication challenges and restricted and repetitive behaviors. Some common behaviors are hand flapping, body rocking, Hyperactivity, impulsive and/or inattentive behavior etc.
As time passes with changes in circumstances, the young adults gradually get isolated from family environments & circles. Located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, ALF creates a safe space for 16 autistic young adults to socialize with others living with the same condition and be their new extended family circle.
A new sweet home for the 16 autistic young adults for better living and not to worry when their parents have passed away. This organization does not rely upon governmental funds and is fully financed by the parents of the residents. The fundraised money from GoFundMe will be sent directly to the foundation in Dhaka. We plan to use these funds to order new appliances and allocate them towards any of their future needs.
Bangladesh remains a developing country where mental disorders are still a matter of stigma. Through this foundation, we are trying to normalize autism disorder and provide a safe home for some young adults with the goal that others will follow. We are thankful for your help, and though they may not be able to express it to us clearly, the children of Alokdhara are grateful for all your support.
