Hello! My name is James Dew Hall and I am a 20-year-old Filmmaker, Actor, Composer, Sound Designer, and Storyteller based in Richmond, Virginia!

As a second-year VCUCinema student this year, 2025, I decided to make my most recent screenplay my first feature film!

NOW!!! What is Homesick? What's it about? Why tell this story?

Homesick tells the story of Earth and its people in a small city, living with the new phenomenon of everything visible to the human eye being drained of color. An art college student, Tevy, navigating this world with two head-butting divorced parents and an unplanned baby on the way, is murdered—only to awaken trapped in a mysterious, vibrant realm. Unbeknownst to her, this alien-constructed world, once part of an extinct civilization, holds secrets tied to two surviving extraterrestrials hiding as her mother's Buddhist iconography on Earth, and as a brother of a corrupt and paranoid Sheriff in office, being the cause of the loss of Color. Gifted with new powers from the aliens, Tevy must guide her fractured family—each with abilities awakened by the alien influence—to confront the cosmic threat linked to her death, family beliefs, and the fragile state of their family bond. As time almost runs out, identities fracture, and an alien agenda surfaces, Homesick becomes a genre-bending sci-fi drama about breaking cycles of trauma to heal what was once lost amongst your only family.

Ok, that's dope! But why tell this story?

I want to tell this story to help families understand that it's normal to have conflicts, but not to let them become hereditary traumas for the younger and upcoming generations to experience. Rather, create a safe home and space for your family to grow and heal. Hints the title, Homesick.

How is the film coming along so far?
