UPDATE 6/15/26
I have been updating all of this in the updates section already but figured I should update it here as well!
After speaking to multiple companies over the last several weeks, we learned that our current vehicle wasn't able to tow, hold or lift the weight capacity of brooklins new power wheelchair (425lbs) we had explored many different options as far as putting something on the back or our car and also tow behind options but every manufacturer and company had told us the same thing. It could to be done... so we started looking into handicap accessible vehicles with a handicap ramp/lift already in them! And with everyones help, we were able to purchase a 1996 Ford enclave!! Fully handicap accessible with a wheelchair lift on it already!!!!! Now Brooklin will be able to ride IN HER WHEELCHAIR, IN THE VAN to her appointments and wherever she needs to go with her wheelchair IN COMFORT!! She is so so excited!!! None of this would have been possible without all of your help and donations and we are truly greatful!!! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED AND HELPED MAKE THIS POSSIBLE!!
With that being said, we are still in need of a little bit of help! The van needs new oxygen sensors $120 (it has two), a tune up with spark plugs $200, oil change and new filter, and we also need help registering the vehicle and putting plates on it $306 so we can start using it for brooklin!
We have gotten a couple donations towards this already since I posted it on my Facebook, and we are so thankful! we are roughly about $280-300 short to be able to get all of this done and be able to start using our new handicap accessible van for brooklin
If you are able to donate, THANK YOU.. and if you aren't, please share this for us!
Hi everyone! We are in desperate need of help in raising the funds to be able to put a specialized tow package, including a trailer hitch, on our vehicle! We will also need to raise funds to cover the installation fees, labor, and costs to have someone put it on our vehicle.
Our daughter Brooklin is 6 years old. She has spinal muscular atrophy type 1, and she is getting her very first customized power wheelchair through insurance! The only problem is that we currently do not have a handicap-accessible vehicle or any means to be able to transport her new wheelchair once she receives it, and she will be getting her chair in the next couple of weeks. She is so excited for this new chapter in her life and to have her own set of wheels to be able to move around in. We are looking for help in raising the funds to be able to have one installed on our vehicle.
Our daughter is currently enrolled in DSCC, and we are using our allotted funds to get a handicap ramp installed at our house in the next couple of weeks for accessibility. They will also be helping us with a lift for the back of our vehicle to be able to transport her new chair. I spoke with our caseworker, and they won't be able to help us with the cost and installation of a tow package and hitch, though. As soon as we are able to come up with the funds to have that added to our vehicle, we will be able to get the lift installed through them so we will be able to transport her chair. This is very important to us and her, and we really need help. Our daughter is wheelchair-dependent, so her wheelchair is her legs, and she needs to be able to take her chair with her wherever she goes for independence and accessibility.
Anything helps and will get us closer to our goal. If you aren't able to donate, if you could please just share this for us to help us reach as many people as possible so we can hopefully be able to come up with the funds to be able to get this installed prior to her getting her chair.
Thank you
