Fueling Foster Families

2216. That is the number of days our wonderful daughter will have been in and out of foster care by the time her adoption date hits on 12-8-2020. That is 6 years and 24 days. It is years in and out of the foster care system, in and out of different homes, through different case workers and counselors. Although it's been a hard journey for her, she has had an amazing army of support behind her through several foster families, their extended families, overworked but tireless case workers and court advocates. Our family is forever grateful to everyone who supported her when we could not, and supported us through the last 6+ years. It's those people that we want to encourage and thank with this fundraiser.
Our goal is to raise at least $2,216 to put towards gift cards and notes of encouragement for the active foster families with our agency (D.A. Blodgett-St. Johns). We will be purchasing gift cards between $10 and $50 to local coffee shops, and restaurants. We hope that through these gift cards and the notes of encouragement that will go along with them, these families can grab a quiet moment and a hot cup of coffee, or dishes-free night of delivery pizza. The funds raised will help bring encouragement for the families who surround and support the kids in care - because some of those days and some of those years are longer than others.
Our goal is to raise the funds by 12-8-2020, which is our daughter's adoption date and to have the gift cards purchased and ready to go by January first. What a great way to start a new year!
Being able to encourage families like ours, who fight daily as advocates for kids in foster care would help us to pay it forward for all the times it's been done for us. We know firsthand that some days things seem very dark, case plans and agency requests seem overwhelming, and being "the good" just feels really hard. Sometimes a good cry in a parking lot with a chocolate frosty and fries can sooth the pain of the day and encourage us to start fresh tomorrow. Being a support to the support system is what it's about for us.
If you prefer to purchase your own gift card and send you own note of encouragement, please do! Target, Walmart, Starbucks, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell or similar are all great ideas. Just reach out and we will be happy to tell you where to mail them.
As a little thank-you for your support, we will be sending you out a colorful friendship bracelet. It's a little campy, I know, but hopefully it will remind you that lots of little acts of encouragement help people through. Thank you for all the support you've given us in the past and thank you in advance for your prayers and support as we start our new future as a family of 5 together.
