The project of Kantona is a project in rural Gambia near Karsi Kunda that started in 2015 by the Banko foundation to help local community find job opportunities in the arts. The project aims to connect local knowledge to architecture. To do so the project has partnered up with young architects to build a campus through international workshops and to promote an earth architecture valorizing local knowledge. The process therefore seeks to push boundaries in earth architecture as one of the artistic activities of the campus alongside weaving, dyeing and much more.
Today the campus is adding its 5th building, a market for the community to sell their work but also to make a connection with other villages.
The community market aims to be a large open space where kids play soccer, music and performance can happen as much as the market takes place. Using earth bricks with openings, a set of ventilated shelfs and a cistern system, the space is meant to showcase the potential to build much with little.
By helping us achieve this goal, you can play a part in the life of a whole community.
The money collected here with directly finance the materials and local workforce. All extra money will go to the community to organize social events.
