The story of Jarisa Haxhiaj, a 6-year-old girl from the remote small town of Këlcyra, Albania, embodies resilience in the face of profound adversity. Tragically, her mother, Kimete Haxhiaj, lost her battle with cancer at the young age of 39, leaving behind a void that can never truly be filled.

The true weight of this loss falls squarely upon Jarisa and her 12-year-old brother, Jurgen. In the shadow of their mother's passing, they've had to navigate a world without the comforting presence of the woman who gave them life. For Jarisa, whose big, expressive eyes mirror the innocence of childhood, this transition has been especially challenging. It's a story of a young girl, barely out of infancy, who must now face a reality that no child should ever endure.

Her father, Dritan, faces the additional challenge of a disability, further complicating their family's journey. Emotionally and financially, everyone in this family has faced the full force of life's hardships, losing both a partner and a beloved parent. The ache of the loss has been compounded by the strains of making ends meet in a world where adversity seems unrelenting. 1. Who am I and why am I doing this?

I am Arbër Muhameti, a proud member of the global community. I have a strong connection to Këlcyra, Albania, where this family resides. Having lived in Boston for many years and recently returned to Albania, I am now in a unique position to give back to my country in the best way possible. I initiated this fundraiser because I believe in the power of collective compassion and our chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing adversity.

2. Why should you trust me?

While in Boston, I've been an active part of the Boston Albanian American Community for over a decade, engaging in nonprofit work and fundraising while volunteering with MAASBESA (https://maasbesa.org). I initially reached out to fellow volunteers, some of whom were among the organization's earliest members and are among the first donors on this fundraiser's list, and asked for their support. While you may or may not be familiar with them personally, their willingness to contribute should offer you a solid reason to trust me, even if we haven't crossed paths before.

3. What is my relationship to this family?

While I am not directly related to this family, I am deeply moved by their story and determined to help. Këlcyra is my hometown, and I consider this family a part of my community. Their struggle resonates with me, motivating me to take action.

4. How will the funds be distributed?

Transparency is paramount in this endeavor. Rest assured, all funds raised will be used solely for the benefit of the Haxhiaj family. As I mentioned, I am currently present in Albania, and I'm taking steps to ensure the secure handling of the funds. Specifically, I plan to work closely with the family to have them open a new bank account exclusively for receiving the funds raised from this fundraiser.

Some donors have suggested the idea of recurring payments to the family, which can be a thoughtful approach to ensuring long-term support. I'm in the process of exploring this possibility with local banks while maintaining the father as the sole account holder to ensure financial responsibility.
