From Job to Jakob: A Journey of Faith, Trials, and TBI Healing

My son Jakob is 22 years old and living with the long-term effects of a traumatic brain injury. He is kind, gentle, and compassionate—the kind of young man who gives away his last dollar to someone in need, even when he has nothing for himself. Recently, Jakob said something that struck me deeply: “I feel like Job… just remove the ‘ak.’” And he was right. He has endured trials, losses, and hardships that would break most people—yet he still holds onto faith, hope, and kindness. At the same time, I realized the same truth: From Job to Jakob—his story is one of suffering, endurance, and the promise of restoration. It was a moment we both discovered separately but at the same time. A moment that felt spiritual, powerful, and guided.

Jakob Before the Injury — A Life Full of Promise

Jakob graduated Cum Laude, wearing two medallions around his neck, smiling proudly with a thumbs-up. He worked three to four jobs at a time, earning over $55,000 a year, and he was so proud that he could provide for his family. When his father was unemployed, Jakob stepped up as the breadwinner, supporting his younger brother and keeping the household afloat. He loved his work—especially pool and maintenance services—and he was already planning to open his own business. He had a future he was building with his own hands.

After the car accidents and deadly assaults and traumatic brain injury, everything changed. Since May 11, 2025, Jakob has had no income, no transportation, no savings, no support, and no way to return to the life he worked so hard to build. He has lost almost everything—except his life—and even that life has not yet been restored.

The Day He Lost His Last Treasure

Jakob saved everything he could. He even collected coins for years, planning to pass them down to his future children. After the injury, when his income disappeared and his life fell apart, he held onto that collection as the last piece of his accomplishments. Eventually, he had nothing left. He cashed out his savings and even his coin collection—the one thing he never wanted to let go of. When he showed me the check from the coin exchange, he cried. The bank wouldn’t cash it because his account was overdrawn, and he felt like his future had slipped away. I watched him hand me that check with tears in his eyes, and it broke my heart. I knew he was being taken advantage of because he didn’t understand what was happening, and I tried to give him a little more so he wouldn’t feel the full weight of that loss. This is why I’m asking for help. Jakob deserves a chance to rebuild what was taken from him.

The Good Samaritan & Mephibosheth — Why These Scriptures Matter

Jakob reminds me of the man in Luke 10, beaten and left on the side of the road. In Jesus’ story, it wasn’t the priest or the Levite who stopped—it was the Samaritan, the one no one expected. Jesus ends the story with, “Go and do likewise.” Jakob has lived that message his whole life. Now he is the one who needs someone to stop and help. I also think of 2 Samuel 9, where King David seeks out Mephibosheth—Jonathan’s son who became disabled as a child—and restores him, protects him, and gives him a seat at the table. That story gives me hope that compassion still exists, that people still rise up to care for the vulnerable, and that God still moves through the kindness of others.

Jakob needs specialized TBI rehabilitation—the kind offered at Scripps in California or advanced programs in Florida. These programs could truly change his future, but they are extremely expensive, and we cannot afford them alone. Every contribution will go directly toward travel to a qualified TBI rehabilitation center, medical evaluations and neurological treatment, housing and transportation during care, and therapy and rehabilitation services not covered by insurance. Please consider supporting Jakob’s journey to healing and restoration. Your kindness and generosity can help bring hope and a new beginning to a young man who has never stopped believing in the power of faith and community.

Your support is more than financial — it is compassion in action. It is the heart of the Good Samaritan. It is the restoration of Mephibosheth. It is the hope that Job held onto through every trial. https://gofund.me/ddb43899
