ESS and Max IV Joint Charity Run April 22, 2022
Don protégé
Dear Colleagues at ESS and at Max IV, dear friends,
As we are currently witnessing the unfolding of a painful new chapter of European history, we realise that we don't have much power to influence global politics as staff members or friends of ESS and Max IV. At the same time, we still have tools in our hands and in our minds to cope with this unprecedented situation.
We can decide to act as a community: we can team up, organise a charity run, fundraise and donate to an NGO that runs humanitarian programmes in Ukraine.
-We can decide to run, or just walk, 2,5 or 5 or 10 kms, for charity, even if it's not our favourite activity. Or just donate from our couch!
-We can decide to team up with colleagues and create relay teams. We can harmonise our human relationships with our colleagues by participating.
-We can decide to connect on a different level, and in a different setting than in our laboratories, workshops and offices.
-We can decide to invite friends and family to support our event by sharing this fundraising link, and ask for their donations too.
By taking part of this event, we can grow as individuals and as a community: it's an opportunity to feel that we did answer the call for concrete action, however small, rather than reading and watching the news, feeling terrified and anxious.
The organisation which receives our donation is:
Hope for Ukraine: their purpose is "to serve individuals and families of the poorest communities in Ukraine. Provide support and rehabilitation for wounded soldiers that return home from Eastern Ukraine conflict zone. We are dedicated to improving quality of life of poor children and youth by providing basic necessities, critical benefits and services, programs that support long-term development and opportunities that prepare them for success." How did we choose the beneficiary? We consulted the recommendations and ratings of the Charity Navigator and Charity Watch and their lists of highly-rated charities involved in humanitarian relief, recovery and peace-building efforts in Ukraine specifically. This selected organisation is on the list of 9 selected highly-rated charities and has a Give With Confidence rating from Charity Navigator.
We ask you to donate the equivalent to an average running race registration fee (300-500 SEK), but whether it is less or more, we will be equally happy. Our fundraising initiative will be open until a few days after the event and we will monitor how we are reaching our fundraising goal.
Take a look at the video made on World Humanitarian Day, at United Nations Headquarter, about making a difference.

OBS: When you will receive the credit card invoice after your donation, in some cases, it might appear that you donated to "Let's get a piano for ESS". That was a previous campaign we planned but never launched and it is now deleted from this page. We contacted gofundme about this technical error but due to the extreme workload they have regarding the Ukrainian war, their action time is slowed down.
You will see your donation under the current campaign when you check, so no worries!
