Our daughter Jordan Olivares, has always been a fighter. Jordan grew up an athlete from a young age and went on to make history at Sacramento State, leading the women’s basketball team to their first-ever Big Sky Conference win in the championship tournament final game against Idaho. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree and used her COVID year to play basketball at Cal State Bakersfield, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Shortly after graduating, Jordan was proudly hired by the Kern County Probation Department, serving her community as a probation officer. She has always been strong, active, and dedicated—to her team, her community,, her career, friends and her family.

What Happened

Last week, Jordan was rushed to the hospital by ambulance after suddenly losing mobility from the neck down. She is currently in the ICU, unable to move her arms or legs. Doctors have diagnosed her with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)—a rare neurological disorder where the immune system attacks the nerves, often causing paralysis.

Jordan’s condition remains critical. She is having difficult breathing, swallowing, and cannot move independently without assistance. Recovery from GBS varies and can be long, unpredictable, and can require months of hospitalization, therapy, and rehabilitation. Some patients face lifelong challenges.

Why We’re Asking for Help

Jordan recently accomplished another major milestone—she just purchased her first home, and her mortgage is due December 1st. While she fights for her mobility and recovery in the ICU, the last thing we want is for her to worry about bills, housing, or financial stress.
