Hi, my name is Cathy, a Temporary Foreign Worker here in Canada, and an only child. I am humbly reaching out for help for my mother, Arceli Rafa Bajaro, who has been diagnosed with advanced liver cirrhosis and its serious complications.

My mother underwent an MRI/MRCP, and the results broke my heart. The doctors confirmed:

• Liver Cirrhosis (chronic, irreversible liver damage)

• Portal Hypertension (dangerously high pressure in the veins connected to the liver)

• Splenomegaly (enlarged spleen)

• Collateral Blood Vessels forming due to blocked liver circulation

• Ascites (fluid buildup in her abdomen)

• Fluid around her lungs

• Edema in her abdominal wall

• Gallstones

These findings mean that her condition is progressing, and she needs continuous monitoring, medication, hospital visits, and procedures to prevent life-threatening complications like internal bleeding, infections, and breathing difficulties.

My mother is the only one taking care of my father, who has Parkinson’s disease, and my 5-year-old son who has autism back home in the Philippines. Knowing that she’s fighting this battle while still trying to care for our family is tearing me apart.

Working two jobs here in Canada is no longer enough to cover her medical tests, hospitalization, medications, and ongoing treatment. Every day, I fear getting another call from the hospital.
