For the Love of Gowns
Donation protected
GPs working during the coronavirus pandemic desperately need gowns across Scotland. We have a bank of amazing volunteers ready to sew including many professionals, such as the incredibly generous team from Owen Sails, Oban who can work quickly at home. We need money to help provide materials and to organise safe distribution of the gowns to doctors surgeries. We are giving gowns to doctors for free, but the real cost with new fabric works out at about £9 per gown. Please donate whatever you can to help.
A doctor in the group GP Survival Scotland highlighted the urgent need for GP’s to have gowns to wear when treating patients during the coronavirus pandemic. There is a national shortage of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and volunteers are doing what they can to help. Following the initial shout out, 78 GP practices responded, requesting almost 600 gowns - over 100 of these were from Argyll.
This campaign has been set up by Aideen Shields and Jane Churchill, based in Oban. We have been working with community groups and charities for many years and we are keen to help, so we established- For the Love of Gowns. This group has been set up to support the ‘For The Love of Scrubs’ (FTLoS) group in response to the overwhelming numbers of requests for scrubs and gowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteers from FTLoS were unable to fulfil additional requests for gowns so this group is focusing on GOWNS FOR GPs.
