According to the American Heart Association Tetralogy of Fallot has four key features. A ventricular septal defect (a hole between the ventricles) and obstruction from the right ventricle to the lungs are the most important features. The aorta which is the major artery from the heart to the body lies directly over the ventricular septal defect, and the right ventricle develops a thickened muscle. To fix this he is going to have to have open heart surgery. Amazing Doctors at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, FL are going to close the ventricular septal defect with a patch. The right ventricular outflow tract is opened by removing some thickened muscle below the pulmonary valve, repairing or removing the obstructed pulmonary valve and, if needed, enlarging the branch pulmonary arteries that go to each lung.
In the new year he will undergo this surgery when he is a little older and stronger. His parents are going to be facing medical bills that were not part of any new parent's plan. If you can donate all donations will go to his medical bills, and whatever is left over his parents have decided to donate to another child just like Charlie. If you cannot donate now please keep him in your prayers, the more people that pray for his healing and speedy recovery the better. Thank you for taking the time to read about my sweet nephew.
