Expensive String Bass Repair:
Having studied and performed music for the past 30 years with a Master of Music degree from Indiana University, I enjoy working with kids and being involved in musical activities in my community. Every year, I volunteer by directing free music master classes for local elementary, middle and high school students at community events.
While leading a master class in 2015 at a local middle school, my string bass cracked suddenly in several places from shoulder to F-hole, supposedly as a result of dryness. It essentially imploded, rendering the instrument unplayable. In the interim I have resorted to teaching bass lessons with a cello tuned like a bass. But this temporary solution is insufficient to for teaching bass and prevents me from participating in community orchestras and music programs.
