Fix Adrienne's Home

When people hear “cancer diagnosis” they don’t think about those months that come before the diagnosis: the decreased income from being sick, the time lost to illness, projects delayed until financial and health improves. When Adrienne first got sick, she had to set aside several essential repairs that her home needed. As months of illness and treatment continued to eat into disability pay and savings, it became clear those repairs wouldn’t be done. Cancer doesn’t just ruin lives, it also leaves behind all the things the victim couldn’t do.

Adrienne’s death left a massive hole in the lives of her children.

It also left them with a major problem.

Her daughters inherited Adrienne’s house, as a place to live and an asset which could be sold if needed. However, the property needs significant repairs – the work undone because of Adrienne’s declining health and income. In particular, there’s an ongoing problem with basement flooding and water damage. This situation renders the house nearly impossible to sell.

Fixing this is going to require:

• Demolishing part of the deck

• Digging a trench along the side to connect to municipal storm drains

• Rebuilding the rear deck (as it is a fire exit)

• Refinishing the basement to remediate the flood damages

The small inheritance left to Emily and Leia has no sufficient funds to cover these repairs, which will cost tens of thousands of dollars. So I’m passing the hat.

Adrienne touched many, many people. She had many friends, co-workers, and employers, who paid tribute to her after her death. Many said, “If there’s ever anything I can do…” Well, yes, there is actually! I’m calling on you to contribute to this effort. If you are unable to give – then please, please, please share this campaign as much as possible.

We all know Adrienne wouldn’t have liked asking for help; that wasn’t her way. But I know she would never have wanted her children to be forced to deal with a damaged house and no ability to repair it. Please help in any way you can.

I’m Jeff Rose-Martland, Adrienne’s former partner and father of her children. I started this fundraiser for our children to fix up their house. While I am running this campaign, none of the money will come to me. All funds received will go towards repairs to the house and property. In the unlikely event that there’s any excess after repairs are complete, it will be put towards Emily & Leia’s future needs.
