Fight for Five 2024
Donation protected
The inspiration for this fundraiser comes from the former Demon Deacon field hockey player, Maria Whitehead, who lost her battle with Melanoma at the young age of 25. Although small in stature, her hard work and determination never went unnoticed and empowered those around her. In 2002, Maria led the Demon Deacons to their first ACC and NCAA championships. Her legacy has left an imprint on our lives and continues to inspire us all.
The Wake Forest field hockey team is hosting a Spikeball tournament to spread awareness and raise money for Melanoma research - all proceeds will be donated to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. The tournament will take place on Sunday April 7th from 2-5pm in McCreary Field House.
We want to raise $5,555 in honor of Maria, who wore #5 on her back with pride during her time as a Deac. Thank you in advance for your help and support!
Please help spread the word!
To be transparent we want you to know exactly who we are:

As a player on the team, the senior class & graduate students organize and run the fundraiser yearly to support Maria Whitehead and her legacy as a Wake Forest Field Hockey Player. The funds we are raising will be used to help find a cure for Melanoma or support the research. The funds will be withdrawn and transferred to the following location:
