Save Echo: Take To The Skies!

It is a travesty that Meta has turned their backs on the Echo VR community, but we can change the tide if we can show the world that it's fundamentally wrong to lock users out of their digital lives, and what better way to do that than to write it in the sky over Mark Zuckerberg's head! A local skywriting outfit has quoted me a cost of $2,950 to fly 3 hours over Menlo Park with a 43-character message of our choice. I will direct 100% of the funds to making this happen.

WHY

Ultimately this story is much bigger than Echo VR itself, it's about what happens when Big Tech decides to lock you out of your digital life, and this aspect affects everyone. The tech press loves to hate Mark Zuckerburg, so if we do this right they will be our allies as we build the case that if they can do this to us, they can do it to you, too. As soon as enough negative PR builds up that it outweighs the cost of keeping the servers up, we win.

A message writ large over Silicon Valley will certainly kick things off but we need to act quickly. Media interest is already building and we need to strike while the iron is hot.

THE PLAN

WHO DIS?

I am rev2600, an Echo VR player who helped create the Echo Combat stats website ECRanked com. I've logged thousands of Combat & Arena hours and I truly believe that this game is a work of cultural significance. It represents a milestone in VR, sports, and human-computer interaction which shouldn't simply be discarded as if it were so much trash.

I am outraged that Meta thinks it's reasonable to do this when there are plenty of options available such as self-hosting, pay to play, and long-term support, the cost of which is negligible compared to the damage being done. The fact that none of these were chosen is frankly disrespectful, and the community deserves better.

I am self doxxing to ensure there are no concerns around trust, but suffice to say that I have no need for money. My only goal is to help reverse this madness and help save the game we all love.
