Fencing European and World Championships 2020

My name is Teagan Williams-Stewart, I am seventeen years old and fence for Great Britain. Having moved up from Cadets (U17), I’m now a first year Junior (U20) and currently ranked second in Great Britain. I’m also ranked fourth in Senior Women’s foil and am the current Great Britain Senior National Champion. As some of you may know I started fencing just before my eleventh birthday and continue to have a passion for the sport.
This current season (2019/20) I have been competing as a first-year junior and have had some very respectable results in Europe. I have been selected to represent Great Britain and compete in the European Championships 2020 in both the individual and team events (https://www.britishfencing.com/gbr-2020-junior-euro-squad-announced-2-2/ ). The Championships are to be held in Porec, Croatia at the end of February. This is the culmination of months of hard work, dedication and commitment from both myself and my coaches Pierre Harper and Linda Strachan of Newham Swords Fencing Club.
Ultimately the Europeans and Worlds will be the two most expensive events of the season. Costs that I am aware of so far are:
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS EXPECTED COST
Individual Entry Fees: 60 euros (payable in advance)
Team Entry Fees: 200 euros (payable in advance)
Transfer Costs: 60 euros (payable in advance)
Hotel Costs: most athletes should expect to pay for 6 nights and should budget around £50-£60 B&B per night, based on a twin room
Staff (Chef de Mission and Team Managers) Contribution: £65/athlete
Referee Fee: 70 euros (payable in advance, for this event this is levied by the organiser NOT by BF)
As you can see these costs do not include flights, daily subsistence and costs associated with personal coaching expenses.
You may wonder why the amount funded has been set high, this is in anticipation of Worlds Championships selection which will be held in Salt Lake City, USA at the beginning of April 2020, flights at this point are averaging at just over £1,000 per person.
