COVID-19 Memorial & Relief Fund for Beharry Family

The COVID-19 outbreak has caused extreme devastation within our family.

Our very first battle with the virus was lost by our Uncle in late March.

The second battle was lost by our Grandma in mid-April.

I had absolutely no idea it would make it’s way on to us next.

In early April 2020, Mom suddenly caught COVID while taking care of Grandma (we were unaware Grandma had COVID during this time). After monitoring her symptoms realizing it was not getting any better, I made the call to get her in an ambulance.

Mom was hospitalized for only a week when we heard news of Grandma's passing. We unfortunately never got to tell her what happened.

Not too long after the devastating news we got the call that Mom had to get intubated in the ICU of Jacobi Medical Center.

So it began.

The fight for her life.

A fight I don't wish on anyone.

Despite circumstances, there were times Mom persevered in the most unlikely of situations. Mom had amazing faith & we had such a good feeling she would pull through.

Even her doctors were hopeful!

Besides, anyone who knows Mom knows she had the kindest heart & the most warm spirit. It was so easy to cheer her on! She was loved by everyone!

Even the hospital staff at Jacobi!

We were all rooting for her!

She was so resilient

& doing so well!

Until she wasn’t.

As the days went on, her health kept deteriorating. It started getting hard to hear any updates from Jacobi.

Mom was declining.

After a month-long battle it seemed unlikely she was going to recover from the damages the virus has caused. The doctors at Jacobi left our family with a decision. They wanted us to keep her well-being in mind before we add any additional procedures & discomfort that would abruptly end her life if we continue. She was going through a lot. She was incredibly weak and we couldn’t afford any more setbacks. In the last weeks of May we collectively decided that Mom was to be weaned off life support to pass slowly and comfortably to the Heavens. We were granted visitation to say our final Goodbyes on May 28th, 2020.

On our visit we made it clear to her we were not holding her back any longer. Her journey was complete. Shortly after our visit, Mom let go on her own. Freeing us from the guilt of making the final decision. I believe she must have heard us & freed herself before we could question our course of action. That’s just who Mom was, always thinking of others and how she could make our choices easier. She gave us life long comfort that she will be okay. She showed us. Nonetheless our family misses her sincerely and have found it hard to cope with such a great loss during this time.

COVID-19 took away not just our Mother, but also the process of grieving. We couldn't honor her in a normal funeral setting. No viewing or even experience the comfort of our extended friends and family due to the pandemic. It is a major loss. We are creating this GoFundMe for a proper memorial service (on her one year Anniversary after passing) for our Mom because she was the most sincere person you could ever meet & deserves a good memorial. We are also asking for donations because we are facing major hardship with housing and paying for our day to day expenses. We know this is a particularly difficult time for many & we welcome your thoughts, prayers, sentiments and support of all forms. For those of you who are in a position to give, please consider making a charitable contribution to support our Family.
