Words cannot begin to describe how difficult and trying the last month has been for the Pool family. On Mother's day of this year, we discovered news that shook the entire foundation of our family. We found out that our father had been diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma. He went from working full time to almost a full month of intense testing and treatment at Genesis Ascension and Henry Ford Hospital to try to find answers and determine potential eligibility for a liver transplant. Our strong Daddy fought hard to be here. He kept saying it wasn't his time. He had too much to do and so much to say. He never gave up hope. Things escalated too quickly, but his smile never dimmed. He always said "We got this." We spent every day at the hospital and almost every night in either a nearby hotel or the hospital parking lot to stay close to the man who never abandoned his family. The man who gave us everything he could. We laughed, cried, prayed, listened to his favorite music, and experienced bittersweet moments of family time together. When the prognosis was poor, we fought to get him home with us, the only place he wanted to be. We had him home with us for one night and the next morning he went into respiratory arrest. Before we knew it, we were surrounding him with love in the ICU at 1am while he took his last breath. It happened too quickly. We were not prepared, not that you ever are. He was supposed to be around to walk his daughter down the aisle and take his future grandchildren to Red Wing games. He was supposed to grow old with our beautiful mother, the absolute love of his life. We accumulated a mountain of medical expenses during his hospital stay, fell behind on a lot of bills, and now we are preparing to try to put together a funeral to say goodbye for now. Due to this, we are in need of assistance. We would normally never ask for help. We have a lot of pride and privacy and even putting this out there is something that goes beyond anything we have ever done. We want to make sure that our beautiful mom isn't left with insurmountable debt and that she has the chance to have a service and burial for the love of her life that she deserves. With everything added up, we are setting a goal of $20,000 for funeral expenses, medical bills, and to catch up on everything that fell behind in the last month. We do not expect anyone to help but wanted to put this out there just in case. Thank you in advance, anything helps.
