Evan’s Cancer Battle - Don’t Stop Believing⚡️❤️

Evan and Becky need our help!

My name is Matt Fischer and I am raising funds for my brother-in-law, Evan McKechnie and his family who are in a 550+ day battle / healing journey with cancer. Determined to crush this disease, Evan amazes us daily with his positive spirit and mental strength. Evan’s biggest cheerleaders are his loving wife, Becky and their 4 kids: Luke (16), Layne (15), Lyla (13) and Livianna (9).

In late October of 2022, Evan had been working in Northern BC and was home on scheduled days off. He had not been feeling well and figured it was just the common flu. Then he noticed his skin and eyes seemed yellow. Becky and Evan went to the Regina General Hospital ER as they knew this could be serious. The doctors believed it was gallbladder issues, but the CT scan performed on Nov. 3, 2022 brought devastating news.

At the age of 42, Evan was in for the biggest battle of his life;
Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.

Evan was determined and ready to fight!! The appointments started. Oncology, CT scans, MRIs, and bloodwork. Thankfully, Evan was a candidate for the Whipple procedure. This major 8-hour surgery in Saskatoon was only partially completed though as the surgeon discovered that the tumor was too close to a major vein. Chemo was started and a second major surgery in Toronto on May 9, 2023, successfully removed the tumor from the pancreas. A reconstruction of the vessel was performed. Chemo continued and over the next couple of months, Evan focused on resting, recovering and regaining his strength.

On June 28, 2023, Evan had a follow-up CT scan and the McKechnies received another blow! The pancreas remained clear but cancer had spread to Evan’s liver. Ev’s oncology team decided it was best for him to get a port inserted into his chest and start a new chemo. Evan completed many rounds of chemo over the next several months, which took a serious toll on his body. On Feb 29th, 2024 the Oncology team decided it was in Evan's best interest to give his body a break from chemo as the cancer spots on his liver had increased in size and Evan was struggling with major fatigue.

Throughout Evan’s cancer battle, he has invested in care weekly from naturopathic and alternative therapies which have supported his immunity and positively impacted his strength and overall well-being. Evan has applied to various clinical trials and cancer centers around the world but has been rejected due to the progression of the disease.

However, on April 30, 2024, the McKechnie family received good news. Evan has been accepted to the Euromed Foundation Alternative Treatment Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The McKechnies are beyond grateful & hopeful for this opportunity. Treatment needs to start ASAP! So, the McKechnie family is loading up their vehicle and they are heading to the Euromed clinic on May 10, 2024, for a 4-6 week treatment regime.

We all know how financially devastating this disease can be and the cancer treatment that Evan needs is not covered by insurance. We are humbly asking for your support to reduce the financial burden that Evan and his family are facing during this hard and lengthy battle while being mostly off work and without an income. With your generous contributions, we can make a significant difference in the McKechnies' lives by offsetting the cost-of-living expenses and eliminating the cost of Evan’s treatment.

Evan is a loving husband, father and friend. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he is self-determined and rarely asks for help himself. He is easygoing, humble and hardworking. We are always grateful for his level-headed wise advice, a good visit and a laugh. When things are tough, Evan digs deep to figure it out and giving up is not an option. He has been with Becky since grade 10 and they are raising a beautiful family. It is both hard to see them go through so much and awe-inspiring to witness their teamwork, resilience and love. Becky and Ev feel that this treatment in Arizona is Ev’s last resort, having exhausted all other options offered to him thus far. We ask you to join in this GoFundMe to support their great effort to live on!

Sincere gratitude for the outpouring of love and generosity that has surrounded this family from the beginning. The texts, calls, cards, money, prayers and food trains have provided so much support. Ev’s Gee Bee Construction family and the team at Ecole Lumsden Elementary have always been so understanding and flexible; allowing Becky and Evan the time off work required for surgeries and healing. For all of this, we love you and the McKechnies are overflowing with gratitude.
