Ernesto Cano's Care Expenses

Donation protected
On August 25th our family was notified of a horrific event. My father, Ernesto Cano, had a stroke. He was rushed to New Ulm Medical Center via ambulance where it was determined that he suffered a stroke which caused him to then suffer a brain bleed. This required him to be airlifted to Abbott Northwestern Hospital  in Minneapolis to receive the necessary care due to New Ulm Medical Center not being equipped to care for his brain bleed.

My father was then admitted to ICU at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. The stroke caused his blood pressure to become high, due to this he was not eligible for the surgery to assist his brain bleed. My father required a feeding tube due to him not being able to properly obtain the nutrition needed on his own. His medical team monitored his feeding tube and also his brain bleed by routinely checking his vitals and performing MRIs, CAT scans, and X-Rays.

These tests determined that his brain bleed was deep and near his dominate hemisphere, which controls his speech, limb mobility and his ability to swallow. He is currently experiencing numbness in his left arm and leg. He also has a facial droop, which is affecting his speech. He is working with a physical and speech therapist to improve these side effects.

On Monday, August 31st he will be transferred to Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institution in Minneapolis. This is where he will continue to work on improving his side effects, which will be a duration of at least three weeks. Due to the COVID pandemic, he will only be allowed one primary visitor for those three weeks. He will then have the option to transfer to a rehabilitation facility that is closer to home.

At this time we, as his family and friends, are asking for any support you are able to offer. We would be grateful to you if you could offer financial, emotional, and spiritual support. We will continue to keep you updated throughout his recovery. The funds raised will assist in paying household and medical bills as well as help cover loss wages while he is taking the necessary time to recovery. Taking away some of the financial stress will allow him to focus on the most important thing, his recovery.
