Equipment for Child Disability Centers - Peru
Donation protected
It is well known that children with special needs face unique sets of challenges most people are not accustomed to. These challenges are exacerbated to an extreme degree in impoverished areas around the world, even facing societal exile in many instances. Organizations exist to help provide medical care, physical & social therapy, daycare, and more to support these children and their families.
Ayacucho, Peru
Wasi Esperanza offers rehabilitation and help to children and young people with disabilities who live in extreme poverty. By teaching them to live more independently, they work to improve their quality of life and that of their families. They are an essential service in the city of Ayacucho, ensuring children receive the help they desperately need, with the overarching goal of building more inclusive and supportive communities in rural Peru.
Wasi Esperanza wants to raise awareness among the local population and government about people with physical disabilities. By removing these persons from anonymity, they try to defend and improve the rights of these persons.
Info on Wasi Esperanza:
What are you donating to?
Wasi Esperanza is critically understaffed and undersupplied, with insufficient funding to provide high-standard medical care, social work and psychological services, and must tolerate failing technology to support operations. They have a long waitlist for children in the city and can only service a small number of patients at a time.
On August 22nd, 2023, I plan to personally travel out to Ayacucho to deliver equipment and supplies desperately needed by the organization. Part of these funds will be used to cover import tax on technology devices.
The top priority items are:
- New walkers and wheelchairs for kids to replace old broken ones
- Physical therapy equipment
- Network connectivity
- Laptops to replace the dying old desktop computers
- Toys, teaching equipment, supplies
- Outreach efforts and funding
- Utilities
How will this work?
I will be coordinating the purchase and delivery logistics of any equipment bought using these funds. For purposes of accountability, I will be updating this page with proof of purchase and delivery and will be personally accountable for any logistical issues, fees, misuse, etc. Any funds not used to buy equipment will be donated directly to the organization, for which proof will also be provided.
I am also working to ensure all funds donated here will be matched through corporate volunteer funding sources.
Can I just donate without going through you?
Yes of course! You can donate directly here without using me as the intermediary: https://www.globalgiving.org/donate/40514/asociacion-centro-de-rehabilitacion-para-personas-con-d/
Please message me if you do go this route for record-keeping purposes.
The benefit of donating to this fund is that you can follow along and see how your dollars are being put to use, as I will be buying this equipment and bringing it on a plane with me (will be updating on Instagram @__b_randon__). I am working as a volunteer on behalf of the organization and will be personally responsible for ensuring all funds are delivered to the organization.
