Hi, my name is Kim Smith. It’s hard for me to express my need and to ask for help but my friends urged me to reach out. I have Deep Infiltrative Endometriosis with nerve and bowel involvement.
Endometriosis is a painful and complex disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus implants outside the uterus, forming lesions, cysts and other growths in various parts of the body. I cannot sit, barely walk and even lying down is now becoming unbearable. I have been on a leave of absence unable to work for almost two years.
After consulting with many doctors in Ontario, sadly and frustratingly, the surgical procedure that I need is simply not available to me and many other women in Canada. This is why I need to travel to Romania to the Bucharest Endometriosis Centre in Romania. Dr. Mitroi performs many of these complex surgeries each year.
I will be travelling to Romania and my surgery is scheduled for January. The surgical procedure will cost about $30,000 Canadian dollars. This does include travel costs and having someone accompany me to support me on this healing journey. I expect to be away from home for 2 and a half weeks.
Honestly, I can barely allow myself to believe 2024 might actually offer me relief from the excruciating pain I have endured for the past years. I am holding on to hope and will be eternally grateful for any gifts small or large that anyone is able to give toward my surgery and travel related expenses.
