“I’m thankful to be alive.”
We went around the circle each listing one thing we were thankful for.
“I’m thankful to be alive.”
“I’m thankful to be alive and my family is alive too.”
“I’m thankful to be alive and you guys can come visit.”
“I’m thankful to be alive...”
At first I thought they were just copying each other. And then I realized it is I who have been taking being alive for granted. Life in the ghetto is hard. There is not enough food, not enough space, not enough money and too many troubles. Yet they face it with bright smiles, they don’t give up meeting together and meeting each other’s needs. Rain or shine, they are family.
Even though these youths live in the poorest slums of Uganda, they have been a true inspiration to our family. They don't know where their next meal will come from, but they teach more than 100 kids a day how to dance in order to invest into the younger generation.
They are still in high school, but they lead multiple Bible studies with drug addicts, prostitutes--whomever is their neighbors. They have shown us what true discipleship looks like.
As witnesses to their faith, we hope to together with you meet their needs by:
- Providing 10 girls and boys with their school fees for one year (US$200/person). Once a girl or boy drops out of school, they are at risk of abuse or exploitation.
- Providing 10 youths with microloans to generate income so that they can continue to lead and multiple discipleship groups (US$150/youth).
- Providing travel expenses for 8 youths to travel to 5 other districts to teach dance and and enable others to share the Gospel and impact their community (US$500 for the trip)
- Providing youths with necessary video equipments to share the stories and faces of the slums of Uganda (US$1000)
