Empower Kat's Comeback: Support Her Path to Healing

Hey! My name is Kat and I am currently in need of help paying for medical bills. My pain got too bad so I had to stop my usual work of nannying late last year and I have been cat sitting when I can in between my first surgery and now. I am about to have a Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO) surgery on my left hip (it took a while to get to the weight my surgeon is requiring me to be at as a maximum limit so I was working a lot during that time). However I am not making near as much money as I was and I can't work after this surgery.

For anyone unfamiliar with this surgery who wants to know a little about it, what it comes down to is I was born with a condition called hip/acetabular dysplasia. My first surgery was to repair torn cartilage that the dysplasia caused, and now the PAO surgery (my first of two, as I need one on each side) is coming up. This surgery will basically be them cutting my acetabular and moving it to actually keep my femoral head in place better. This will stop me from getting more tears in my labrum and from getting early onset arthritis in both of my hips. This will help me live my life and be active again once I manage to recover from it. I will be in the hospital for 3-5 days after this surgery and then I will be non weight bearing for at least 2 weeks plus a full 6-8 weeks on crutches and a lot of PT.

Unfortunately due to some weirdness with my insurance our out of pocket max is not as close to being met as we thought, so at least half of this money will help to pay the bills for my surgery. The other half will be to help me pay for in home care after surgery as I will be a massive fall risk, and it costs $55 an hour, with a minimum of 3 hours a day, and we can't afford that on our own as it won't be covered by our insurance. So that is where the other half of these funds will be going.

I really am stressing and worried so much about our finances and I feel terrible knowing I will be out of work for 3 months at least, but I also can't wait to do this surgery as the longer I wait, the more likely I am to develop arthritis in my hips. Please, any little bit helps and it all adds up! We had to use our savings for some other life emergencies this year and last, (cat developed seizures, car broke down, etc) it's been a very hard past year and a half and the money issues are basically just constantly coming in. We really (my spouse and I) could just use a bit of break. I will also be doing my best to sell some crafts through Ko-fi if I can get it up and running, but that is never a guarantee so while I do all I can to make ends meet, I am stepping out of my comfort zone and asking for help, so that I can focus on my recovery and keeping my mental and emotional health stable during this whole ordeal.
