Emma Welp’s DIPG fight

Donation protected
On Sunday, October 11th, Laura and Mark Welp and their 6 year old twins, Emma and Abby, were having a great weekend.   The day was normal until lunchtime when Emma started complaining of a bad headache.  It was discovered that she had a brain bleed and was immediately taken by helicopter to the Children's Hospital in Peoria.  On  Monday afternoon, Emma had surgery to reduce swelling and remove a blood clot.  Sadly, while in surgery, a tumor was discovered on her brain stem, which was sent for biopsy.

The biopsy results revealed that the tumor is stage IV DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma), which is a type of tumor found in an area of the brainstem known as the pons.  At this time there is no cure for this rare cancer and it is inoperable.

Emma has had her breathing tube removed, a speech therapist working with her to help her with swallowing food, and a PT to begin working on her right side of her body.  The strength on her left side is improving.  She had a visit last weekend from her best friend and twin sister, Abby, and it was a happy reunion.

Emma is set to begin radiation for five days per week, for six weeks.  She is scheduled to be released from the hospital soon, and this is where the real fight begins.

The Welp family could use your help.   Your generous donation, no matter how big or small,  will help this wonderful family during this difficult and unprecedented time.  Travel to and from Peoria daily,  growing medical expenses, an uncertain number of months off of work, and daily living expenses are going to add up quickly.  Please help the Welp family as they navigate through this time as they need to give all they can to help their sweet daughter Emma fight this incurable, fast growing brain cancer.

If you would rather,  donations can be dropped off or sent to The Jump Spot, (Attn: Emma Welp Fight), 1 Yount Drive, Bloomington, Illinois, 61704.  Please make checks out to Mark and Laura Welp.  Please contact your tax advisor to see if your donation is tax deductible.

If a donation isn't possible, we ask that you please say a daily prayer for Emma, Abby, Mark and Laura Welp.  This fight is urgent and anything you can do to make life a little easier on this wonderfully caring family is greatly appreciated!
