Emergency Surgery Needed to save Xena
Donation protected
Hi! Xena is needing an emergency C-section and spay after exhausting all of our other options. I have spent everything I have at the moment trying to get her well, and if anyone could donate, it’s much appreciated.
She was pregnant, with the due date being the 30th of April. 2.5 weeks before her due date, I noticed she was being super lethargic and not eating. I tried offering all different types of foods, but after 4 days, I brought her to the emergency vet. She had some inflammation in her intestines and a lot of gas. They gave me some meds, but she still wasn’t eating. I was obviously worried about her but also about the fact that she had puppies that weren’t getting any nutrients. I brought her back in and did another X-ray and blood work, and her white blood cells were a bit elevated. She was just put on more meds and such. But I was so worried; she didn’t eat for a week and a half, and I brought her back in. They finally gave her something to try and make her eat, which she finally did take a few bites of, but it was almost like she wanted to eat but couldn’t.
Fast forward to last week, I took off work so I could be home when she delivered because I was so anxious about her delivery and wanted to be present. She had 2 puppies the night of the 30th, tiny tiny. The second one born passed away that night, and then she had 2 stuck in the birth canal for too long. I helped her deliver those; both were stillborn. So she had one living pup at that time, and I was tube feeding every 2-3 hours. Her last pup passed away 3 nights ago. She was so devastated and looked for him, just crying constantly. But then yesterday, she started crying in pain (not sure if you’re familiar with huskies, but they can tend to be dramatic), but I knew something wasn’t right. I brought her back in this morning for more X-rays and blood work, and it turns out she had a puppy that had passed weeks ago, poisoning her and the puppies in the womb. That’s why she had all the symptoms she did and why all the pups passed. Very unfortunate ordeal, and my heart is breaking for her. She’s had one litter previously, and all went amazing. We even kept a puppy from her last litter.
At the vet yesterday she was given two injections to pass the pup naturally, and she has not had any progress.. biggest worry is her going septic, so need to make this happen ASAP
But now she will be getting surgery to remove the dead pup and her uterus. It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for sure.
Any help appreciated, she’s been though so much the last few weeks and my heart is heavy for her.
