ACE Charity is a large shelter in Spain (Malaga) currently caring for around 500-700 dogs and cats who are waiting to be adopted across Europe, and even occasionally worldwide.

The shelter does not receive government funding, so is fully depending on gifts and sponsoring.

Why is the fundraiser important?

Our animal shelter in Spain is a safe haven for over 500 vulnerable dogs and 200 cats who depend on us every single day. Sadly, frequent power outages put their safety, comfort, and even their lives at risk — as well as making the work of our dedicated local team incredibly difficult.

Without electricity, our shelter comes to a standstill. Critical facilities fail: lighting, refrigeration for medicines, ventilation, communication, security systems, heat lamps, quarantine areas and, most importantly our clinic. Without power, essential medical treatments and life-saving surgeries simply cannot take place.

But the impact goes even further. When there is no electricity, we are unable to wash and dry blankets, bedding and towels — items that are vital for hygiene, infection control and comfort. We cannot provide warmth for our dogs and cats through the use of heated blankets or heat lamps, which is especially dangerous for sick, injured, very young, or elderly animals during cold or terrible weather.

Spain regularly faces extreme conditions such as intense heat, cold spells and heavy rainfall. These weather events often cause power outages that can quickly turn into dangerous and life-threatening situations for the animals in our care, while creating enormous practical challenges for our Spanish colleagues who work tirelessly for them.

That is why we urgently need to invest in a reliable emergency power generator. A generator would ensure that essential systems remain operational during power outages, allowing us to continue providing safe, responsible, and essential care.

Our shelter requires a generator of approximately 10–12 kW. The total cost for purchase and installation is estimated between €7,500 and €10,000. This is a one-time but absolutely crucial investment i’for the continuity, safety, and quality of care for the animals who rely on us.
