Eli's Emergency Appendectomy Bills

As many of you know, the day after Eli's 9th birthday party his appendix ruptured and Eli had to have an emergency appendectomy.

After a very scary week and a half stay at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, where Eli got much worse before he got better, he was stable and ready to recover at home.

Thankfully Eli is back to his normal good health and spirits. And while it's hard to put a price on health and happiness, there is one. A pretty hefty one...

Luckily, insurance covered $49000 of a $68000 bill. After negotiating my amount owed with both our insurance and the hospital's medical billing department, I was able to get the final amount owed down from $18,875 to $6,314.
