Lauren's Medical Fund

Hey everyone. Thank you for taking the time to look into this GoFund me. My big sister Lauren is incredibly special to me, and is everything that a big sister should be. Unfortunately, over the past few years she has been battling with a rare form Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma. It makes its presence in the form of painful tumors that have recently progressed to the point where it is too much to handle most of the time to walk let alone work. In Colorado she's received multiple rounds of radiation, light treatment photo therapy, and oral chemo. After moving to Texas in search of better cancer treatment, she was laid off from her job due to medical absences, which in turn took away her healthcare. We applied for Medicaid however because of Texas healthcare laws, if you are over the age of 20 and under age 65, without a child, or without having a disability (according to her medicaid denial paperwork), you do not qualify.

After many failed attempts trying to get her into MD Anderson to begin treatment, we ended up in their Emergency Room that led to a three day hospitalization with no health insurance. As we all know medical insurance is insanely expensive and unachievable, especially if there is no income. But the cost of the insurances accepted by MDA are hundreds of dollars a month. We currently have a disability application in however we are being informed it may be a long and strenuous process. My mother, Lauren, and I are doing all we can to come up with the money to cover the expenses, however, bills don't stop because you're sick. Laurens pain is so unbearable most nights she can't sleep, any excessive movements creates excruciating nerve pain, and the pain medications she's been prescribed prevent regular daily function. Her treatment plan is going to be extensive and we just want her to get on the winning end of all of this so that life may regain some normalcy and we can manage and reduce the pain she feels every day. She doesn't deserve to go through this and it breaks my heart to see her hurt and not have many other options or resources to turn to. So we are leaning on our people and community. She's my best friend and I just want her to have all the support we can find. This is a vulnerable thing to do so please respect her and her space.

*update 11-3-2023: she was scheduled to start chemo on 11-6 but MD Anderson had to cancel because her insurance seemed it not urgent and each treatment out of pocket is $117000!! Her doctors are trying to fight it and get it approved but it’s pushing the healing process back a little bit. The continued support means the world to us.
