Adventures in Stem Cells

After being diagnosed in 2007 with multiple sclerosis, my focus suddenly changed. It became about being healthy, having a family, and maintaining my mobility. After our son, Mason, was born in 2008, my focus changed even more. It\'s not enough to \"live as well as I can with MS\", I want a cure. Not just for myself or for my husband, but I want a cure for my son.
My search for that cure has lead me to Dr. Richard Burt at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. As a part of his clinical trial for multiple sclerosis, I will be traveling to Chicago for a stem cell transplant.
The process will include harvesting my own stem cells, chemotherapy and then the transplant. I will be in Chicago for around 3 months total during the treatment, and then will travel back and forth for follow up appointments. During this time, I will be in and out of the hospital, so I will need to pay for housing in downtown Chicago for myself as well as the person helping to take care of me. Other expenses will also include airfare, food, medical bills, etc.
This is the chance for me to be MS-free, and more importantly, for my 3 year old to have a mom that\'s MS-free. I hope you can help.
