Drifting - Towson University Senior Thesis Film

Hello! My name is Samantha Aben, and I’m the writer and director of a short film titled ‘Drifting.’ It’s a coming-of-age dramedy that follows two former childhood best friends, now young adults, who meet at their local roller rink to catch up. The film explores navigating early adulthood, friendship, growing apart, and loneliness.

All proceeds to our funding goal will go directly into production and primarily cover the cost of location rentals and food, snacks and water for our cast and crew, which are our two top priorities. With a fast-approaching deadline, anything and everything helps. Thank you so much for supporting us!

About the team

Samantha Aben is in her senior year of studying Electronic Media and Film at Towson University. She has had a passion for film ever since she wanted to know “what’s in the box.” You can find her watering her indoor jungle in her free time, watching low-budget 80’s horror movies, and falling on her roller skates. She is incredibly grateful for everyone’s support in bringing her vision to life!

Asher Newberry is a rising senior at Towson University and the producer/editor for ‘Drifting.’ Some responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to scheduling, budgeting, making sure all cast and crew are fed/hydrated and ensuring the safest work environment possible. She’s a jack of all trades as a sound designer, editor, producer and bubble tea enthusiast. She enjoys listening to music and reading in her free time and can most often be found doing somehow both at once while playing a video game.

Kelsey Woron is a rising senior at Towson University and the Assistant Director for the short film “Drifting.” She has written multiple scripts and has been the Cinematographer for all projects. She’s spent much of her life wanting to be in the film industry. From putting on acting performances for her family, going to acting school, and “writing her vivid dreams down in her journal so she could make movies out of them.” It goes to say that film and the industry have always been her dream in more ways than one. Besides film, in her free time, you can catch her working out, playing sports, loudly singing in her car, watching horror movies 365 days out of the year and twice in October, and spending time with family, more specifically, her dog. She is beyond grateful for any contributions from family, friends, and the public to help her dreams come true. Every dollar counts.

Cecilia Mullins is the director of photography for the short film ‘Drifting.’ She is finishing her last semester as a senior at Towson University, where she has spent the previous 4 ½ years studying in the Electronic Media and Film department- this is where she discovered her love for lighting and cinematography. In addition to her behind-the-camera work, she has a passion for 3D stop-motion animation. She is honored for this to be her first student production as a director of photography.
