Drew’s Kidney Transplant

1 year ago my dad, Drew, was diagnosed with kidney cancer in his only kidney. Drew was only born with one kidney. They performed a first operation at the end of September 2018 to try and remove only the kidney tumor. After the initial surgery, the kidney never regained function. My dad has been on dialysis 3x a week since. They performed a 2nd operation in January of 2019 to remove the remaining non functioning kidney. He has been living without any kidney function for a year and going through life saving dialysis. My dad has also been hospitalized on several different occasions due to high blood pressure complications, usually ending up in the ICU. They started the process of finding a donor kidney for Drew and encouraged us to find a live donor, as it significantly reduces waiting time. We started a Facebook page called Drew’s Donor Journey to post updates and bring awareness to Drew’s situation.   It has been a long, difficult year, but we recently got some life-changing news. My cousin and my dads niece is his match. They will be performing his transplant in Iowa City. I am making this gofundme for my parents and my cousin’s family for support with hotel stays, food, and etc. while we are out in Iowa City during and after the transplant. My parents would never ever ask for any sort of help in a million years, but I want to help them in any way that I can. My mom misses work and stays in hotels every night while my dad is in the hospital. The least we can do for our donor and family is provide their hotel room and food while they are saving Drew’s life. Anything and everything helps ❤️
