Women on Wheels: Cycling Across the USA
Donativo protegido
We are biking across America, but we're poor college students. So, we need your help to fund this valuable experience. Are you interested in being part of this adventure?
Who: Bekah Ford (Dragon) + Katie Mattas (trail name pending)
What: Trans-America (TransAm) Self-supported Cycling Trip
Where: From Washington State to New Jersey
When: Early June to Late August
Why: To seek discomfort, to spread love, and to inspire others
How: You can participate in this epic adventure by helping financially! Your donations will be used to purchase gear, plane tickets, food, housing, and to help with emergency costs. Any money that is not used to directly fund the bike trip will be donated to a (yet undetermined) worthy cause. The current ideas are: 1) a one-time scholarship to a current female Juniatian and adventurer 2) a donation to a foundation that encourages women to get outside and enjoy the outdoors.

The times I have given into my restless spirit have been some of the most formative seasons of my life. After highschool I walked into the woods for half of a year. It was there, living among the trees and flowers, breezes and sunbeams, rain and thunder that I learned more about myself than I ever could in any classroom. And now I am ready to learn again. But this time I won’t be walking down the trail. I’ll be flying down the open road. Instead of my backpack and boots, I am bringing some wheels and a helmet.
I’m Dragon. This is my bike, Wings. Together, with our team of two other riders, we plan to pedal 3,000 miles across the United States of America. We just need your help to do it.
The one thing standing in the way is money. While living for a summer in a tent and on a bike is cheap, it is not free. I don’t feel that finances should be the thing to stop an adventure like this from happening. I hope you agree.
I am excited to be partnering with Juniata College to help raise funds for this trip. Juniata College has promised to match up to $2500 that I am able to crowdfund. In order to fund the gear purchases, food and housing, and emergency needs throughout the trip we have budgeted $6000. I must admit, I do not feel completely at ease asking for financial help. But I am doing it anyway, because I know the immense value of a trip like this. In addition to the personal enrichment the trip will offer, I foresee benefits to all those that choose to be involved. I will be running a blog and working very closely with Juniata Alumni across the country. Donors and non-donors alike will be able to participate in the journey by reading my content and sharing in the pictures we take. I expect my willingness to be vulnerable will inspire my audience to pursue the experiences that will cause them to grow in unique ways. Even if those experiences are not included in the comfortable, linear path.
