I am the mom of 4 wonderful children, 3 of whom have special/medical needs. My husband Rich and three of our children were diagnosed with Achondroplasia. My husband had major back surgery one his spine and is not able to walk long distance. He is using a scooter to get around.
Richie is our 19-year-old son, using a wheelchair full time when getting around. He can walk on his own, however, he is a big fall risk. He has had 3 back surgeries and is looking at possibly needing surgery on both legs.
Emily and Jaiden are our 14-year-old twin girls. Both have kyphosis of the spine. Emily will eventually need surgery for this. They both have a hard time walking long distances due to medical issues. They will both need a scooter to get around. I asked for scooters instead of wheelchairs for several reasons. It is impossible to transport all of these wheelchairs/scooters in our current vehicles. I can’t even lift Richie’s wheelchair into my van. I am in no position to be purchasing a vehicle to make this work. Our family is needing a wheelchair van in the coming months able accommodate everyone. We are asking if you are interested or able to help in any way, we would appreciate it so much. I struggle with asking for any help at all. But this is out of my control.
Our oldest lives close by, we are grateful for his help and his fiancé when we do anything as a family. They are extremely helpful with us. Lifting and getting these chair in and out of cars. Thank you for taking the time to hear our story. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
