Back in March of this year, this incredible woman I am honored to call my best friend started a medical battle that has now taken us to a moment where I need to reach out to one and all for help on her behalf! I am asking for donations for Kelley Knight for living expenses and medical bills. My sweet friend would never ask this on her own...so I felt compelled to reach out to you all for help!
In March of this year, it was determined by one hospital that she may have an Autoimmune Disease called Pyoderma Gangrenosum (PG). She was treated with high levels of antibiotics, prednisone and even chemo-like treatments to try and treat this. It wasn't until a month or so ago, we met with a Director of Autoimmune Disease that determined she did not have the Disease after all, but that it was an infection. An infection that the Doctors still cannot seem to find where it's originating from. So my dearest friend Kelley has had open wounds on her skin since March that have never healed and have only continued to grow.
A few weeks ago, Kelley could not get out of bed. She had a 106 Fever and was rushed to the hospital. With much luck, she transferred to Fairfax Hospital and we think we have the team of Doctors we have been waiting for! I can't tell you the disappointment she faced at EVERY turn trying to get some answers and help. The doctors took cultures of the infection and are trying to get her on the right antibiotics to see if this infection can be healed without surgery. We also only recently found out an interesting fact that she most likely wasn't able to heal because of the high levels of Prednisone they had her on (which was only for the PG, which she did NOT have). The prednisone was counteracting with the antibiotics and wound care, so that she was not able to heal and recover. As if she doesn't have enough, she also has a herniated disc in her neck, that sends pain down her arm and side.
So with all that said, she has not been able to work as much as her infection has progressed. She has a good 6 week plan with Fairfax Hospital to hopefully get the infection under control via antibiotics. So many of us close to her want her to focus on getting better and healing! So any donations would be amazing so that she does not have this worry ahead of her!
One last Note: I know that many of you love Kelley and may have had no idea she was going through this. It's hard for her to keep up with too much texting, chats, etc., so please do not take it personally, but what she needs most is rest and financial help! I will try to keep this updated in the coming weeks so that you all know how she is progressing. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Any amount you can give would be appreciated. Kelley is an incredible person that always does so much for others, and I just wanted to do something for my friend in her time of need!
My name is Jennifer and I am from Woodbridge, VA. Kelley Knight is my dearest best friend. The money raised will go to living and medical expenses while she fights and recovers from a severe infection, while not being able to work. The donations go directly to her bank account. Thank you!
