When Rachel was 15 years old, she was diagnosed with Kidney Disease as her right kidney failed. After 9 ½ years of doctors appointments and medications, her left kidney began to fail as well. Her brother Tony had undergone multiple tests and was named a match for Rachel.
Surgery was originally scheduled for April 13, 2020 however was canceled due to COVID-19. With some luck, surgery was able to be rescheduled for mid June. On June 18, 2020, the Kidney Transplant took place at ECMC and was very successful with the Kidney beginning to work immediately in Rachel! Rachel has been out of work since August of 2019 and will continue to be out of work for about 3-6 months after surgery. Tony will be out of work for at least 6 weeks.
Because of the surgery Tony is on disability and Rachel continues to have to pay for immunosuppressants and multiple other prescriptions the rest of her life. We originally had a benefit scheduled for May shortly after their surgery, to help raise money for the two siblings however again with COVID-19 everything was put on hold. With the uncertainty of how long things will be contained to a certain amount of people and when numbers will stay down we have decided to forget about the benefit. With that said, here we are. We would like to ask everyone to help if they can and support Rachel and Tony through these times.
Along with this page, we will also be selling bracelets to also help raise awareness for Kidney Disease and support Rachel and Tony.
