My name is Penny, and I’m reaching out during a critical time in my life. Recently, I was diagnosed with carcinoma in situ, an early stage of cervical cancer. After undergoing a LEEP procedure, my gynecologic oncologist has determined that I need a robotic hysterectomy surgery. The surgery is scheduled for February, and I will need at least two months to recover.

This surgery is essential for my health and future, but it comes with significant challenges. Not only are there substantial out-of-pocket costs for the procedure, but I will also be unable to work during my recovery. As the sole provider for myself and my almost seven-year-old daughter, this has left me in a very difficult financial position.

I am a single mother living in Austin, Texas. I divorced in December 2020 and share custody of my daughter with my ex-husband. While she has a relationship with her father, he is the primary custodian, which means I am not eligible for government benefits like child support, tax credits, food stamps, or Medicaid. With no family to lean on—both my parents and sibling have passed away—I work tirelessly, often putting in 110 to 120 hours every two weeks, to cover our basic living expenses and my daughter’s educational and developmental needs.

Without my income during these two months, I am reaching out to ask for help. The funds raised will go toward covering the costs of my surgery, rent, groceries, and my share of my daughter’s expenses while I recover. Your support will not only help me get through this difficult time but also ensure that I can return to work stronger and more stable for my family.
