Hello to our dearest family and friends,
On Thursday, February 25th, Pat went to the ER with a few concerning symptoms that he wanted to get checked out. After battling a terrible headache, arm pain, a loss in balance, slurred speech and just feeling slightly off and confused, he was given a CT scan where they noticed a concerning nodule on the back of his neck. An MRI was ordered and it was determined that there was what appeared to be a tumor on his brain stem. After receiving this life altering information, Pat reached out to some contacts and was advised to head to Houston to try and seek care at MD Anderson, a hospital known for its top of the line cancer treatment.
On Friday, my dad was admitted into MD Anderson, which is a blessing in itself as it is quite a hard hospital to get into as they are world renowned for their care and top of the line treatments and research. After a CT scan, we received news that there was not only a tumor on his brain, but on his kidneys and possibly in his lungs. It appears that the cancer started in his kidneys and has now spread to his lungs and brain.
He is supposed to have a biopsy of this kidneys/brain in the next few days and we will be awaiting results of that biopsy to better understand the type of cancer and severity of it. He is also set to have a specific type of radiation known as gamma knife radiation that will hopefully help shrink the tumor on his brain. After we receive the lab work back from the biopsy, they will be able to determine the type of chemotherapy that will be needed to start battling this.
We are trying to stay as positive as possible that this is treatable and are so thankful he is receiving the best care he can at MD Anderson. Pat is very overwhelmed with this news and is struggling to respond back to the many messages he has gotten over the past few days. Please know he is so thankful for all the well wishes and really appreciates the love.
Thank you all for the love and support, the Spillane family is so blessed to have such a large support system.
Pat just wants his family and friends emotional support and expects no financial support.
