Donate to Mason's Eagle Scout Rain Garden Project
Donativo protegido
My name is Mason, and I am a Life Scout in Troop 382 in Arnold, Maryland. I am working on my Eagle Scout project to build a rain garden for the Children's Theatre of Annapolis (CTA), which will include rehabilitating and expanding an existing outdoor garden, planting native plants and bushes, and installing rain barrels and weep hoses to capture and disperse rainwater. Most of my project expenses are being covered by a generous grant to CTA from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, but I am reaching out to raise funds to pay for expenses not covered by the grant.
This rehabilitation and expansion project is needed because most of the existing plants have died from lack of water or become overgrown and weeds have begun to spread and the edging become dilapidated. (See photos below) This project will bring the garden back to life and help to ensure that what happened to the original garden does not happen to the new one through addition of weed fabric and rain barrels attached to weep hoses. It will also bring natural beauty to the building and absorb some storm water runoff from the theatre's roof to help reduce its environmental impacts. Installing rain barrels to water the garden also means that the theater will be able to conserve tap water and lower utility costs for maintaining the garden. The inclusion of native plants will also support local pollinators and will eventually serve an educational purpose later on when CTA installs educational signage about each plant, an effort that is separate from my project.
Any funds received in excess of my goal will be donated to CTA.
