My name is Katie and I work as a paramedic. Since 2005, I have been fighting a severe autoimmune disease (Granulomatosis with polyangiitis) that has several times almost taken my life. I am out of remission yet again. In the past month, I have been hospitalized three times. I am suffering severe side effects, including fatigue, difficulty in breathing, low oxygen levels, pain, declining kidney function, and severe inflammation. We are waiting for approval to start chemotherapy (Cytoxan and Methotrexate) to attempt to achieve remission again and get relief from symptoms.
While I love being a paramedic, it takes working a lot of hours to make ends meet. I often have 100+ hour pay periods. I have been physically unable to do this, and because of it, we are struggling. We are also about to incur the additional cost of having to travel to North Carolina for treatment to start.
I am a mother to a beautiful 11-year-old daughter, and the stress of trying to afford everything and missing so much work due to hospitalizations is overwhelming. I was asked to make this GoFundMe so that maybe some of this burden can be lifted, which would allow me to not have to work quite so many hours and be able to focus on my health more.
If you are unable to donate, please pray. The power of prayer is amazing, and I know that God is listening. Please feel free to share.
