My name is Wei Liu, and I am reaching out to share the story of my beloved sister, Jinhua Liu, in the hope that you might find it in your heart to help her during this incredibly difficult time. Jinhua, who is 51 years old, has always been a kind and nurturing person, but life has challenged her in ways that no one should have to endure. After going through a painful divorce at the age of 32, due to her husband’s infidelity, Jinhua devoted herself to working multiple jobs to provide for her two children and help them pursue their education.
Once they finished high school, Jinhua finally thought she could focus on her happiness and was introduced to a man she believed to be kind and trustworthy. However, fate dealt her another harsh blow when this man cheated her out of her entire savings she had worked so hard to accumulate. As a result, Jinhua faced both devastation and condemnation from our family for her perceived naivety.
Things took a turn for the worse when her son married but later divorced, leaving her to care for his young daughter, Yue Xi, who is now 8 years old. Jinhua has been raising Yue Xi since she was just two years old, as her mother chose to leave and has since started a new family, wanting nothing to do with her.
On September 27, 2024, Jinhua received a devastating diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, shattering her world. Her primary concern is for her granddaughter; she fears she may not live long enough to care for her. Jinhua desperately wants to be there for Yue Xi until she finishes high school. In her quest for treatment, Jinhua turned to alternative Eastern Traditional Chinese Medicine after hearing from a friend that it could be effective and more affordable than traditional chemotherapy. Unfortunately, her condition worsened after the treatment, leading to a blockage in her liver that left her unable to eat and have proper bowel movements. She now experiences unbearable pain, requiring four levels of pain medication, including morphine, to manage it. Eventually, she began chemotherapy and has completed six out of the ten recommended sessions. Each round has been agonizing for her, often resulting in extreme nausea and vomiting each time she attempts to eat. Despite her suffering, whenever she sees Yue Xi, she finds the strength to carry on. Our family has exhausted all our savings to support Jinhua's medical care, and we are out of options.
Recently, her doctor recommended a stem cell transplant, which has shown promise in shrinking tumors and prolonging life. This treatment is available at the Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center in Shanghai, China, which specializes in particle beam therapy for cancer. Proton and heavy ion radiation therapy is known for its ability to target tumors with high precision while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue, offering improved results for pancreatic cancer patients compared to traditional therapies. However, this treatment costs around US$500,000. Jinhua would need to live in Shanghai for six months to undergo this therapy. Our family and friends have gathered a total of $300,000, and we are still short of US$200,000.
I genuinely hope that Jinhua's plight resonates with you. If you find it in your heart to contribute, no matter how small, it could make a meaningful difference in her life. Your kindness may help her receive the treatment she desperately needs, allowing her to stay by Yue Xi's side for as long as possible.
Thank you for considering our heartfelt request.
