After suddenly developing severe preeclampsia and HELLP Syndrome at 24 weeks pregnant. Maya was born via emergency C-Section at 25 weeks and 0 days: 3 months before her due date. Weighing 1 pound, 2 ounces. She is considered a micro preemie, a term reserved for babies born less than 1 pound 12 ounces or before 26 weeks gestation.

Since birth Maya has been in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.) Maya was born at Good Samaritan in San Jose, which has a level three NICU. While there she was diagnosed with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (a type of chronic lung disease) and Pulmonary Hypertension. She was then transferred to the NICU at Stanford children’s hospital.

Due to Maya’s critical condition, she was admitted into the highest level neonatal intensive care unit, which is located over 2.5 hours from home. We travel to and from the hospital every opportunity we get, which is, at minimum, a 5 hour commute.

The weeks since she was born she has faced numerous challenges, including multiple blood transfusions, PDA, Pulmonary Hypertension, breathing treatments (ventilators and CPAP), a cardiac catheterization procedure, and is currently fighting for her life to overcome her premature lungs.

The purpose of this GoFundMe is to help ease the financial burden on our family so we can focus on bringing Maya home when she is strong enough. Even with both of us returning to work, the medical expenses are already overwhelming.

We face significantly higher expenses than those generally associated with having a baby. There will be substantial medical bills, various medication costs, unique preemie formula, medical equipment such as heart rate/oxygen monitoring devices, and occupational and physical therapy equipment. She will also have specialist appointments that are hours from home, not to mention the cost of transportation to and from the hospital to see our baby girl.
