My name is Abigail Smith and I’m 23 y/o. I recently had gotten in a near fatal accident causing me to have over 50 stitches, surgery on my right eye, fractured shoulder, fractured wrist and lacerations all over my body.

Totaled my only car completely and everything that I had inside with most of my purses, clothes, shoes, accessories, and my phone.

This go fund me would support me getting a little A to B car, medical bills, a phone, and some clothes and shoes that I had lost during this horrible accident.

My story: I had fallen asleep coming back from my friends house early that morning from Alabama at about 11:00 am 10-15 minutes away from my house down a backroad in canton. Doctors confirmed I wasn’t on anything I was simply just really tired. Falling asleep caused me to go off the road and airborne, straight forward collision into a rocky culvert then flipped twice into a lake. I didn’t go unconscious but the steering wheel airbag did not deploy and caused me to rupture my eyeball. I was upside down seatbelt stuck and water started rushing into the car and smoke started to come through the car. After the water reached my head upside down I got my vape and started banging it on the seatbelt release since it was stuck. I finally got the seatbelt unstuck and fell into the water. The car was upside down and there was no light and with only one eye at that point, I immediately tried to find a way out. The water was up to my stomach at that point. I started freaking out and had to catch my breath because my anxiety was so bad thinking I wasn’t fixing to get out or have any help. Nobody saw I wrecked either because it was down a backroad so I knew I was the only one getting myself out of this. Every window I tried punching under water felt like punching a feather. It did cause my finger tips to fall off basically but that’s when I started kicking the windows open but every time I got one open the quicksand would bury the car deeper and allowed more water to come in. I tried even digging through the holes in the widow in the quicksand to try and get out but it just made the car go deeper. After about 7-10 minutes the water was up to my shoulders and I really thought I wasn’t getting out and that was my last moment. I really thought drowning, my worst fear, is how I was fixing to die. At that moment I stopped with the last seconds I had left and prayed to the Almighty God and my savior Jesus. I prayed for a way out and a light. I then started ripping my car apart of objects that I felt around in the darkness to try and bust this window open. I don’t even know what I tore off but it made a light come on !! I could finally see in the car and where I was at and how to get out. I quickly busted the last window out that I saw and before it sank more into the quicksand I held my breath the best I could with hyperventilating and swam out through the window into open free air !! I screamed thank you God and thank you Jesus and started trying to climb the rocky culvert onto the main road to look for help. 5 cars passed me seeing me looking the way I did. Broke my heart but thankfully this man Richard and his wife stopped to help me as long with 2 other cars after that.
Funny coincidence that my step dad that passed away due to covid name was also Richard. Felt like he was my guardian angel throughout all of this.
