Dominic Lopez Collapsed Lung/Medical Expenses

My nephew, Dominic, should have been starting his junior year at Langham Creek High School this past Monday.  Instead, he was in the hospital.  On Tuesday, 8/20, my sister rushed him to the ER that afternoon because he was having severe chest pain and had trouble breathing.  An x-ray taken at the ER revealed that one of his lungs had completely collapsed.  They took him to surgery to insert a tube through the side of his chest into his lung to fill it back with air.  He was then transported to Texas Children’s Hospital in Katy.  After 5 days spent monitoring his lungs with no improvement at all – air was still escaping from his lung and there was still air in the pleural space around his lung (which could cause his lung to collapse again) - they decided to do surgery.  On Sunday, a part of his lung was removed, the hole was stitched up, and then the lung itself was reattached to the chest wall with an adhesive.  It’s been 2 days since the surgery and they still see a large air pocket in the area outside the lung.  Initially, the doctors told my sister if the surgery was successful, my nephew could be going home in a week, with another week spent at home to recover.  However, they can’t remove the chest tube until all of the air is gone, so we are praying the lung heals and we are not here for longer than we need to be.  Luckily, my sister has insurance.  However, even with insurance the medical bills will likely run close to $10k or more.  My sister and nephew have been blessed with so many friends and family visiting them and bringing them food, but long term she’s going to need financial help with these bills.  Any donation towards his medical bills would be so appreciative.  If you can’t donate, please keep my nephew in your prayers.
