Natasha's Cancer Battle

We are starting this campaign to help our great friend Natasha.  Natasha is a Russian pianist who came to Australia and settled in Canberra with her family 15 years ago.  She is now well known as one of the top 10 piano teachers in New South Wales.  She is also a fine performer and accompanist.  Many people have enjoyed her performances in both Canberra and many parts of New South Wales.

 

It came as a great shock to us all when, in February 2017 she was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer.  Since that time she has been through a great deal – she has had chemotherapy and a lumpectomy.  She now faces a mastectomy and possible radiation therapy.  She will need to take expensive medication for at least five years.  Right now her future is very uncertain.

 

Natasha has been very brave in facing this terrible news and has inspired us greatly.  She has tried to keep up with her teaching, not only for the sake of her students but also because she is completely reliant on her piano teaching for her income.

 

She has been remarkable, but her friends can see the toll this is taking.  She doesn’t have the strength to teach at the moment.  We all want her to be able to take some time off, look after herself, get better and get back to giving her gift of music to the Canberra community.  She has given so much -- we want to give something back to her.

 

The money we raise through this campaign will allow Natasha to take a break from her teaching to recover her health, without the strain of having to worry about making ends meet.
